How to disable SSLVPN on SonicWall firewall

Description

This article explains how to disable SSL VPN on a SonicWall firewall based on the installed firmware version. This method involves disabling SSL VPN access on the relevant interface zones to prevent remote connectivity.

Caution: Disabling SSL VPN will immediately terminate all active SSL VPN sessions. Notify remote users before proceeding.

Resolution

For Gen 7 Firewalls and Gen 8 Firewalls (Running on SonicOS 7.x and  SonicOS 8.x)

  • Navigate to the Network | SSL VPN | Server Settings.
  • Under SSL VPN STATUS ON ZONES which represents SSL VPN Access status on each Zone. Toggle the Enable SSL VPN switch to the off position (grey) on all Zones.
  • Scroll down and Click Accept. The SSL VPN service is now disabled globally.

For Gen 6 Firewalls (Running on SonicOS 6.5)

  • Click MANAGE, navigate to SSL-VPN | Server Settings page.
  • Under SSL VPN Status on Zones. Click the zone name to toggle it to a red bubble, which indicates the service is now inactive.
  • Click ACCEPT.

Note: To restore SSL VPN access, re‑enable the SSL VPN toggle after the firmware update or once the risk is resolved. Ensure the firewall is fully patched before enabling remote access. For setup guidance, see: How can I setup SSL-VPN?
