How to Create a Device Control Policy Using the Catalog (Allow and Block) in SonicWall Endpoint Security Portal

Description

In SonicWall Endpoint Security, Device Control enhances visibility and control across the environment, enabling organizations to prevent security breaches, maintain compliance, and protect sensitive data while still allowing legitimate business operations.

Resolution

Step 1: Log in to the SonicWall Endpoint Security Portal

Open a web browser and sign in to the SonicWall Endpoint Security Portal using your administrator credentials.

Step 2: Go to Device Control

From the left‑hand menu, click on Policy, and then select Device Control.
This section allows you to manage which external devices are allowed or blocked on endpoint machines.

Step 3: Open the Create Menu

On the Device Control page, locate the Create button at the top‑right corner of the screen.

Clicking Create will display two options:

  • Allow Device from Catalog
  • Block Device from Catalog

These options are used to define whether a device should be permitted or restricted.

Step 4: Choose Allow or Block

  • Select Allow Device from Catalog if you want endpoints to use a specific device type.
  • Select Block Device from Catalog if you want to prevent endpoints from using a specific device type.

Step 5: Select the Device from the Catalog

After selecting Allow or Block, a catalog list will appear.

Choose the device type you want to control (for example, USB storage or keyboard devices).
The catalog is pre‑defined, so no advanced technical knowledge is required.

Step 6: Save and Apply the Policy

Once the device is selected, save the changes.
