How to copy or migrate settings and reports of email security software to a new server

Description

How to copy/restore/migrate settings and reports of email security software( on windows server) to a new server.

Resolution

How to migrate settings to new server.
In order to migrate settings from one server to another it is necessary for both servers to have same hostname and same email security software versions. The last 4 numbers in software version will be different for different platform so you can ignore that.
Suppose that your new server has email security 9.1.3.3979 and old one has 9.2.2.5289. So you need to upgrade the new one to 9.2.2 before migration.

You can find the email security software version on left bottom corner of login screen.

Firmware Version

Migration Process-

All settings of email security software are stored under the data folder.
Default location of this folder on a 32 bit windows operating system is "C:\Program Files\SonicWallES\data""

Default location of this folder on a 64 bit windows operating system is "C:\Program Files (x86)\SonicWallES\data""

Replace : with the drive letter of the drive where you have installed email security software.

It is possible that you might have selected a different drive or location for data folder while installing the email security software. To verify the location of data folder open datadir.xml file which is located under "C:\Program Files\SonicWallES\data"" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\SonicWallES\data""

The content of data folder looks like the image below-

The tag highlighted by arrow shows the location of data folder.
Just copy this data folder to new server and that will migrate all settings to new server.

How to migrate reports to new server.

Copy the reportdb folder to new server to migrate report database to new server.

Once you copy all the data you should call the support helpline to get the MAC address association removed ( for licensing purposes) from old server so that you can use same serial number on new server.
