How to configure firewall as an NTP server?

Description

Starting SonicOS 7.2.0, SonicWall firewalls can now double as an NTP server! This means an organization can designate the firewall-NTP server to act as the correct time source for other devices on a network segment. This allows all the devices on that segment to synchronize their clocks according to the NTP server’s time.

This article shows how to enable and configure NTP server on the firewall.

  1. Navigate to DEVICE|Settings|Time

  2. Enable the option "Setup device as local NTP server"

  3. Select the interfaces/zones on which you want firewall to act as NTP server.

  4. Access Rules will be created automatically for the appropriate interfaces as shown below

NOTE: For NSv using policy mode, a security policy needs to be created manually as show below

  5. Assign the Firewall interface IP as the NTP server IP on the internal devices. When firewall receives the NTP request, it will process and respond back.
