How to block Websites with Category in CFS 5.0?

Description

This artricle explains how to block websites based on the categories in CFS 5.0. SonicOS 7.1.1 or later firmwares.

Resolution

  • In SonicOS 7.1.1 CFS 5.0 is added and it has 3 CFS filtering order.

         1. URL list.
         2. Category.
         3. Reputation.

  • In this article using the category we block the websites.
  • Example, we take www.cnn.com.
  • The website www.cnn.com comes under the category of "General Information" and sub-category of "News and Media".Image
  • To check the category of a website in the firewall, Please navigate to Device >Diagnostics >URL Rating Request.
  • Also you can visit the website https://cfssupportapi.global.sonicwall.com to check the url rating and reputation.
  • To block the cnn.com website category, navigate to Objects >Profile Objects > Content filter.
  • Edit the CFS profile object, Click on category.
  • Since we are trying to block the www.cnn.com category, Expand General Information Category.Image
  • Enable block for News and Media.
  • In CFS profile object settings, navgigate to Advanced option, enable "HTTPS content filtering".Image
  • Now try to access the website www.cnn.com.
  • The website will get blocked by CFS as shown below, Block reason category as News and Media.Image

NOTE: This block page for https websites will only appear if the DPI-SSL certificate is installed on the end-point.
