What is the procedure to apply or rollback hotfix on a SMA1000 VPN Device?
Resolution
Recommended Process:
1) Hotfix for SMA 1000 are released in the form of Platform Hotfix (pform....) and Client Hotfix (Clt---) which could be downloaded from mysonicwall.com for specific firmware.
2) All downloads could be verified with MD5 Values provided on hotfix download page for file integrity check.
3) Export configuration backup onto a local device. For Virtual appliances it is recommended to have snapshot taken from Hosted Servers.
4) SonicWALL recommends to apply Platform Hotfix first and Client hotfix later . Similarly Platform-hotfix to be removed first and then Client-Hotfix.
5) All hotfix when applied or rolledback VPN device would reboot. This would drop user connected to VPN device.
Installation instructions:
1. Login to the AMC as Admin
2. Go to Maintenance -> Update
3. Upload pform-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy.bin' or clt-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy file and click 'Install Update'
The pform-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy.bin' or clt-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy'script will perform the following actions:
a. Backup existing files.
b. Replaces files with updated ones containing the fix.
c. Adds new files if needed.
d. Reboots the appliance.
Restore instructions:
If you wish to restore the appliance to the state it was in before applying the hotfix, run the following steps:
1. Login to the AMC as Admin
2. Go to Maintenance -> Rollback.
3. Under hotfixes select pform-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy.bin' or clt-hotfix-12.x.x-yyyyy and click 'Remove'
Note:
1) All latest hotfix released are cumulative (All fix released in previous versions would be included).
2) SonicWALL recommends to have Console access available on request for any troubleshooting during the phase of any updates or rollbacks. The cables used for console are to be the one shipped with the device.
3) Hotfix could be scheduled to be applied at specific time or day -Management -Update-Advanced and schedule an update.
4) Hotfix could be pushed from CMS to Managed Appliances . It is recommended to apply hotfix directly on appliances which are in remote location as there might be delays over network.
5) Hotfix are not recommended to be applied over VPN Connection.
6) Hotfix released for specific firmware cannot be applied to different firmware.
7) It is recommended to review technotes released with every hotfix.
