How do I manage Guest Accounts using local/LDAP users?

Description

This article describes the process of setting up the SonicWall in order to allow only the local/AD user with guest administration privilege to be able to create the guest services, accounts & passwords. 

Resolution

NOTE: In this article, we are using a local user as an example, this will work with AD user as well. You would need to import the AD user into the SonicWall. For more information on integrating LDAP with the SonicWall, please follow this article: LDAP Integration with the SonicWall

  1.  Create a local user or use LDAP/AD imported user.
    • Click on MANAGE | Users | Local Users & Groups
    • Click on Add under Local Users 
    • Enter the Name and the password

    • Click on OK
  2. Enable User Login on the interface
    • Click on MANAGE | Network | Interfaces
    • Click on configure iconImage
  3. Log into the SonicWall using the X0 interface IP
    • Use Username: Guest_Admin and password for the local user.  This was setup in step 1.
    • Click on LOG IN

      Image TIP: Please make sure you have allowed the Popup on your browser.

  4.  Click on MANAGE on the splash window.

  5. Enter the password and click on LOG IN

    • Guest Administrator can force logout the Active Guest Users by selecting the Guest Users and then clicking on LOGOUT.
  6. Click on MANAGE | Users | Guest Accounts
    • Click on GENERATE to auto generate the guest accounts

  7. In order to change the password for the auto-created guest account, click on Configure icon and enter new password, then click OK

  8. Select the appropriate Profile, Name, Comment, Password, then click on OK
