How can I disable Portshield?

Description

This article shows how to disable the Portshield on SonicWall appliances. This may be needed when configuring High Availability or in other network deployment.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

We can see in our interfaces list, that X4 is currently Portshielded to X0.

  1. Navigate to  Network | Portshield Groups.
  2. Toggle Select allImage
  3. Click on Configure
  4. Now click on Unassigned next to Portshield interface.

After doing that, the Portshield will be disabled on all the interfaces and your device can be ready to be setup as High Availability Pair.


Resolution for SonicOS 6.2 and Below

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Navigate to  Network | Portshield Groups.
  2. Select all the ports in black, they will now become yellow.

  3. Click Configure.
  4. From the Popup window select  Unassigned next to Portshield Interface.

    After doing that, the Portshield will be disabled on all the interfaces and your device can be ready to be setup as High Availability Pair.
