How can I change the administrator password?

Description

This article covers how to change the administrator password for a SonicWall firewall appliance.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.



 NOTE: With Factory default settings, the username is admin and the password is password.

  • Click  DEVICE.
  • Navigate to FIREWALL | Administration | Firewall Administrator page, underneath Administrator Name & Password field.

  • Click Change Password and a pop up will appear

     Old Password           : password
     New Password          : <type in your new password>
     Confirm Password    : <re-type new password again>






Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.



NOTE: With factory default settings, the username is admin and the password is password.

  • Navigate to Manage | System Setup | Appliance | Base Settings.

    Administrator Name: admin
    Old Password : password
    New Password : <type in your new password>
    Confirm Password : <re-type new password again>



Resolution for SonicOS 6.2 and Below

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


NOTE: With Factory default settings, the username is admin and the password is password.

  • Navigate to System | Administration, underneath Administrator Name & Password field.
