High Availability - Check Network Settings from the standby firewall

Description

This article helps with the steps to configure the HA firewalls so that the standby firewall can complete the Network Settings Test successfully.

Cause

The standby HA firewall requires that monitoring IP addresses are configured so that it can access the internet and perform the Network Settings Test.

Monitoring IP address must be configured on the X0 or on the WAN interfaces so that the standby device can access the internet.

  • Navigate to Device | High Availability | Monitoring, configure Primary and Secondary IP addresses on the X0 interface

  • Configure the  Monitoring settings for the WAN interface

  • If there are no spare WAN IP addresses available then X0 is the only viable option.  The standby firewall uses the X0 monitoring IP to communicate via the active device.  The firewall cannot use any other internal monitoring IP to perform the connection test.
  • Both X0 interfaces must be connected via a switch.  Traffic will not pass from the standby firewall to the active firewall via X0 if both X0 interfaces are directly connected i.e. no switch in between.
  • The network connections test should succeed if one of the above mentioned options has been configured correctly.
