Questions about GMS / Analyzer 8.2 support for Windows Server 2008 (R2)
Q1: Why is SonicWall stopping support of Windows Server 2008 (R2) with GMS/Analyzer 8.2?
A1: Microsoft ended Mainstream Support for Windows Server 2008 (R2) on January 13, 2015 https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dd349801 As a rule, after Microsoft Mainstream Support ends, SonicWall begins to phase out testing of older OS’s to focus on those Microsoft OS’s that are in still in the Mainstream phase of their lifecycle.
Q2: What will happen if I run GMS/Analyzer 8.2 on Windows Server 2008 (R2)?
A2: We have not performed our comprehensive QA test suite of GMS/Analyzer 8.2 test cases on Windows Server so we cannot be specific. The improvements in 8.2 are not dependent on the underlying operating system, so GMS/Analyzer should operate in general. Nevertheless, this deployment is not officially supported.
Q3: What happens if I open a Support Request for a GMS/Analyzer 8.2 running on Windows Server 2008 (R2)?
A3: You will not be denied Support. We will begin diagnosis as usual, and if the problem is OS-independent, then we will troubleshoot. However, if the problem is Windows Server-related, you will be asked to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 before further analysis can take place.
Q4: I have GMS 8.1 running on Server 2008 (R2). When I upgrade to GMS 8.2, do I have to upgrade to Windows Server 2012?
A4: No, subject to the stipulations in Q2 and Q3.
Q5: When will you stop supporting GMS/Analyzer on Windows Server 2012 (R2)?
A5: Microsoft plans to end Mainstream Support for Windows Server 2012 (R2) on January 9, 2018. GMS/Analyzer will be supported on Server 2012 (R2) until that Jan 9, 2018 at a minimum, actual end-of-support to be determined.
Q6: When will GMS/Analyzer support Windows Server 2016?
A6: Windows Server 2016 was released on October 12, 2016. We will evaluate GMS/Analyzer support and plan it into our roadmap, release version and date to be determined.
