DESCRIPTION: Error: Index of the interface.: Bridged interfaces may not be configured in WAN Load Balancing
On SonicWall Security Appliance, when bridging a LAN interface with WAN (X1) interface there is an error message shown as " Error: Index of the interface.: Bridged interfaces may not be configured in WAN Load Balancing ...". This KB article shows how to get rid of this error message and configure the LAN interface with WAN interface in Layer 2 bridge mode.
Step 1: Log in to the SonicWall Management GUI. Step 2: Navigate to the Network|Interfaces page. Step 3: Click on the Configure option of the LAN interface. (In this scenario, X0 interface is the LAN interface but other interfaces like X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 can also be configured in LAN zone)
Step 4: In the Interface X0' Settings window, next to Mode/IP Assignment drop down list select Layer 2 Bridged Mode and Bridged to as X1. Step 5: Click on OK option.
Step 6: There is an error message thrown by SonicWall Security Appliance, as shown below:
The Primary bridge interface shouldn't be participating in the Load balancing, remove the X1 interface from Load Balancing (If there are multiple WAN interfaces) or disable the Load balancing in under Network | Failover & LB (if there is only one WAN Interface in). In this article, only one WAN was configured.
Step 7: Navigate to Network | Failover & LB, Uncheck "Enable Load Balancing" and click on Accept.
Step 8: Layer 2 Bridging would be done successfully and theIP addresses onLAN (X0) and WAN (X1) interfaces must be same as shown below.
