Does GMS offer the ability to push or retrieve data and/or configurations using native or 3rd party tools?
Resolution
Web Services:
GMS administrators typically use several other consoles to manage their network or, in the case of an MSP, their customers' networks. The web services API facilitates integration between GMS and other management consoles and greatly increases the productivity of the internal IT staff. Constructed using the Representational State Transfer (REST), an architectural style that specifies constraints, such as the uniform interface, that if applied to a Web service induce desirable properties, such as performance, scalability and modifiability, which enable services to work best on the Web. Using this RESTful approach, GMS Web Services are simple, lightweight, and scalable. The Web Services can only be used to pull or retrieve information from GMS.

Command Line Interface:
To provide flexibility to our customers, the SonicWall Global Management System (SonicWall GMS) includes a command-line interface (CLI). The SonicWall GMS CLI can make it easier to add new SonicWall appliances and modify existing ones. However, it requires a strong familiarity with using a command-line interface and SonicWall GMS. We recommend caution when using this tool.
While Web Services can retrieve data, the GMS CLI tool offers the ability to automate and/or push data and configurations to both the GMS application and to its managed devices. Some of our larger GMS customers have upstream provisioning applications send commands to GMS via the CLI. Using Third party applications that interact with the GMS CLI from a remote host using the GMS CLI client and server. This gives you the ability to automate tasks on the GMS CLI from a remote host using the GMS CLI client application to execute batch/shell scripts.

Overview of SonicWall specific syslog, SNMP, MIB information:
GMS can forward both syslog and SNMP data.
For GMS, syslog forwarding is detailed in the GMS administrators guide.
For forwarding SNMP traps, Click Here to see the “SNMP managers” section in the admin guide.
Monitoring of various SonicWall devices is possible via SNMP support. GMS comes standard with the MIB files for Aventail, SonicOS (UTM), and Email Security.
- UTM (firewalls)
- Email Security (anti-spam devices)
- No syslog messages available to be used by GMS; SNMP monitoring of Email Security available
- Email Security have in-product reporting capabilities: Click Here for the Email Security Admin Guide
- Aventail
