DHCP Server: Resources of this pool ran out - Only Static Entries configured

Description

Logs show message "DHCP Server: Resources of this pool ran out. Client Info: cid type: cid value:" even if there is no dynamic DHCP Pool on that specific interface.

Two static IPs configured on interface X3 DHCP Server (Network | DHCP Server):
IP = 172.16.1.57 MAC = 00 0C 29 xx xx xx
IP = 172.16.1.66 MAC = 00 14 5E xx xx xx

No other Dynamic DHCP Pool are configured on X3.

The error shown is: DHCP Server: Resources of this pool ran out. Client Info: cid type: cid value: subnet are 1:0x9cb654xxxxxx:172.16.1.0

Cause

This happens when even only one static DHCP entry is configured on the specific interface. If the scope count is more than 0, the DHCP requests will be accepted by the SonicWall for that specific interface (i.e. X3 interface).

Resolution

The error shown is related to a MAC Address (9C B6 54 xx xx xx) not listed in the static DHCP entries for X3 but a request from that MAC Address on the X3 arrives to the SonicWall.

That means that the SonicWall has scope count equal to 2 (2 static DHCP entries) so the DHCP server is active for the X3 but it has no IP addresses available on X3 so it shows the error: DHCP Server: Resources of this pool ran out. Client Info: cid type: cid value:subnet are 1:0x9cb654xxxxxx: 172.16.1.0

In order to fix this issue, you need to troubleshoot the host reported in the log message (i.e. 9C B6 54 xx xx xx) and make sure this host has a static IP assigned or DHCP disabled.
