Creating Service Objects and Groups in Command-Line Interface (CLI) for SonicOs Enhanced (5.8 & below)

Please Note: This article applies to firmware version prior to SonicOS 5.8.2.0

This article describes how to create Service Objects and Service Groups in the SonicWall CLI.

Procedure:

Login to the SonicWall CLI using either SSH or Serial connection. For more information on how to login to the CLI, please refer KB ID 6180

Enter the administrator username and password.
You will be presented with the root prompt of the CLI.
Enter "configure" <enter> to enter the device configuration mode.

• All commands should be in lowercase.
• Names of objects are case sensitive
• An object name containing spaces should be enclosed by double quotes (example"Webserver Services ")
• Default Service Objects or Groups cannot be edited nor deleted.
• Service objects are created in the following directory of the SonicWall CLI:

Editing a Service Object
 

>config
>service
>modify <name of an existing custom Service Object>
>port-end 8888
>port-begin 8888
>exit

Note: When changing port number to a higher value than the existing port number, change the port-end first .

Editing a Service Group
 

>config
>service-group
>modify <name of an existing custom Service Group>
>no service-group <name of a Service Group in this group>
>no service <name of a Service Object in this group>
>exit

Deleting a Service Object
 

>config
>service
>delete <name of an existing custom Service Object>
>exit

Deleting a Service Group

>service-group
>delete <name of an existing custom Service Group>
