Description
Chrome No Longer Supports "NetExtender Quick Launch", "Terminal Services(RDP - Java)", "Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX)" Bookmarks.
Launching a program such as Java from an external device or webpage was only possible previously through NPAPI. In September 2015 Chrome completely removed NPAPI and now only allows their version PPAPI.
PPAPI allows Java but runs in a sandbox which does not have access to programs on your computer or even access to the Chrome browser. Therefore the only way to launch RDP through Java or ActiveX, or launch NetExtender from the target computer through an external unit or website is to use NPAPI and is not supported in Chrome as of September 2015.
Cause
Support for NPAPI was completely removed from Chrome September 2015.
Resolution
With current firmwares up to 8.1.0.3-17sv the bookmark for Terminal Services(RDP - Java) or Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX) if launched from Chrome will launch Terminal Services(RDP-HTML5) as this is the only way Chrome can still launch RDP as Terminal Services(RDP - Java) and Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX) require NPAPI to launch. Furthermore, RDP-HTML5 does not currently support advanced Windows Options such as printer, port and clipboard Redirects.
(* Therefore, all RDP bookmarks do not support advanced Windows Options such as printer, port and clipboard Redirects when launched from Chrome. *)
In order to see that all RDP bookmarks launch using html5 in Chrome use the following steps:
1. Open Virtual Office from Chrome
2. Click Terminal Services(RDP - Java) or Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX)
3. In the pop-up window click f12 to pull up Developer Tools.
4. Click Sources Tab | Click the drop down for js | You will see that the program launches with html5RDP
(* New firmware version 8.5 will handle RDP - Java and RDP ActiveX differently thus allowing advanced Windows Options such as printer, port and clipboard Redirects from Chrome, this firmware version will release later this year exact release date not yet determined *)
(* RDP - HTML5 will still not have advanced Windows Options such as printer, port and clipboard Redirects *)
(* This overrides previous articles that stated Chrome supports Terminal Services(RDP - Java) or Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX), as it will launch from the bookmark for Terminal Services(RDP - Java) or Terminal Services(RDP - ActiveX) but actually launches Terminal Services(RDP - HTML5) as this is the only current way available from Chrome *)
