Certificate Signing Request (CSR) Error: Please enter a valid certificate name for SonicOS 7.1.1

Description

When generating the certificate signing request (CSR) on the new SonicOS 7.1.1, the firewall's graphical user interface (GUI) displays a warning message prompting the user to " please enter a valid certificate name "

Cause

  • When generating the CSR, the new version 7.1.1 does not recognize spaces and  special characters as valid parameters for the certificate alias name.
  • Special Characters are - ! @#$^&*)(-+=>
  • Additionally, version 7.1.1 restricts the use of /, \, ?, and % special characters in the certificate alias name field by default. This restriction is intentional and is a design feature of the system.

Workaround:

When creating a CSR from the firewall running on firmware build 7.1.1, it is important to avoid using spaces or above mentioned special characters in the certificate alias. This can be seen in the images below.

NOTE:  Special characters, such as the underscore (_), can be utilized in the certificate alias.
