Activating service licenses on GMS-managed appliances

Description

Activating service licenses on GMS-managed appliances

Resolution

Overview

Service licenses such as Client Anti-Virus, IPS, Gateway Anti-Spyware, etc can be activated on GMS-managed appliances from within the GMS UI.  Follow the steps below to add the license key to GMS, then activate the service on the appliance.

Resolution or Workaround

There are 2 ways to activate a service on a GMS managed appliance:

1.     Add the license key/s to GMS, then activate the service on a managed appliance.

At Console > Licenses > Activation Codes, enter the activation code under ‘Add Activation Codes (Manual)’.  Several activation codes can be added by using the ‘Add Activation Codes (File based)’ option.  Simply create a text file which contains the activation codes (1 code per line), then use the ‘Add Activation Codes (File based)’ option:

Once the activation codes have been added to GMS, you will see them at Console > Licenses > Activation Codes:

To activate the service on a managed appliance, highlight that appliance and browse to Policies > Register/Upgrades > Service Licenses.  Select the service from the drop-down menu.  If a valid activation code for that service has been added to GMS, it will be displayed under ‘Available Activation Codes’.  To activate the service on the appliance, click the ‘Subscribe’ option:

2.     Activate the license key directly on the managed appliance.

Highlight that appliance on which you want to activate the service, and browse to Policies > Register/Upgrades > Service Licenses.  Enter the activation code in the ‘Activation Code(s)’ field and click ‘Subscribe’:
