Affiliating Units in MySonicWall with MSS

Description

For MPSS units, your MySonicWall (MSW) tenants must be properly created and organized.

With the October 2025 update, MPSS and non-MPSS units can now exist in the same tenant. In addition, auto-affiliation means that when you register an MPSS unit, it will automatically affiliate with SonicSentry. If an affiliation already exists, the new unit will be added to it automatically.

This guide walks you through:

  • How MSW tenants work and how to set them up
  • Registering units and applying MPSS activation keys
  • Enabling NSM management

Once you complete these steps, return to the MPSS Getting Started Guide to continue the onboarding process.

Step 1. Tenant Organization

In MSW, a tenant is simply a container where your devices reside. You do not share devices one by one with SonicSentry; instead, the tenant is automatically affiliated when an MPSS unit is registered.

1a. Options for Organizing Units

With the new changes, you may organize tenants in whichever way works best:

  • Mixed Tenant: MPSS and non-MPSS devices in the same tenant (new recommended approach).
  • Separate Tenants: If you prefer to separate by customer or service, you can still do so.

1b. Tenant Organization Steps

To keep things clean and easy to identify, we recommend using the following format:

<Partner Name (if applicable)> – <End Customer Name> – MPSS

1c. Examples

  • Partner’s MSW: Pawnee – Mouse Rat – MPSS
  • Customer’s MSW: Mouse Rat – MPSS

Step 2. Registration & Applying Activation Keys

When registering or applying activation keys:

  1. Register the firewall to the correct tenant.
  2. Apply the MPSS subscription license.

Once registered with MPSS, the tenant is automatically affiliated with SonicSentry. No manual affiliation steps are required.

Step 3. Enabling NSM Management

This step ensures the firewall is visible in NSM and ready for MPSS onboarding.

  1. In MSW select the unit and select the following options for Firewall Management:
    1. Ensure the unit is licensed for NSM.
    2. Ensure Unit management type is set to Cloud
    3. Ensure Zero Touch is Enabled

Step 4. Affiliating Tenants with SonicSentry

  • Manual affiliation requests are no longer required.
  • Auto-affiliation ensures MSS has the necessary access as soon as the MPSS unit is registered.
  • If you remove an affiliation manually, MSS will lose visibility and support will be interrupted.
