How to verify if configuration file imported into a firewall came from SonicWall’s Migration tool?

Description

In this article, we have explained the steps to verify if configuration file imported into a firewall came from SonicWall’s migration tool. This will be useful in troubleshooting firewall lockup issues or firewall reboot issues or in latency issues.

In order to verify if a firewall is using the settings imported from the migration tool or not, we need to download the firewall's Tech Support Report (TSR).

1) Steps to Download the Tech Support Report (TSR):

  • Click Device in the top navigation menu.
  • Navigate to Diagnostics | Tech Support Report Page.
  • Enable all the toggle switches under Configure and then click the Download Tech Support Report button to save it to the local device.

2) Search for the Migration information in TSR:

Open TSR in Notepad or WordPad or Notepad++.

Search for the keyword "Migration Tool" in the TSR to find the migration tool information below

If the firewall has settings imported from the Migration tool we will see the message "Configuration was Modified by Migration Tool".

If the firewall doesn't have any settings imported from the Migration tool we will see the message "Configuration was NOT Modified by Migration Tool".

1) Source Firewall Model,

2) Source Firewall Firmware Version,

3) Date of Prefs Conversion.

EXAMPLE: In the following Example the settings are imported from the SuperMassive 9600 firewall with 6.5.4.7-83n firmware and it's converted using the migration tool on 2022-07-08.
