Product Advisory: Capture Client 3.6 Upgrade (May 20 Update)

SonicWall engineering has completed the fix to remove duplicate client entries for all tenants that are not using static groups within Capture Client 3.6. If you are such a customer and still have issues, please contact SonicWall Technical Support.

SonicWall engineering has implemented the fix to remove duplicate client entries for all customers that are not using static groups.

For customers using static groups, a manual workaround is available. Please refer to the following knowledgebase article: Removing Duplicate Entries for Capture Client Endpoints

On May 18, SonicWall released Capture Client version 3.6 to all current Capture Client customers. The below table provides an update on known issues possibly encountered during upgrade.

NOTE: All endpoints running Capture Client 3.6 or earlier continue to be fully protected, regardless of current inconsistencies in licensing status display.

For customers not using groups or who are only using dynamic groups, the engineering fix currently scheduled for May 20, 2021, will automatically resolve issues with duplicate client entries and incorrect license status. Capture Client administrators do not need to take any further action in this scenario.

For customers using static groups in your deployment, an automated fix will not be applied as this approach may have unintended implications to your endpoint security policies. If you are using static groups in your Capture Client deployment, we recommend that you manually remove duplicate client entries by following the steps in this knowledge base article:

On May 18, SonicWall released Capture Client version 3.6 to all current Capture Client customers. We are aware that some users are experiencing the following issues as a result of either automatic or manual upgrades:

  • Instances of clients displaying an “Unlicensed” status or duplicate client entries showing in the Capture Client device list
  • Slowness, longer-than-normal load times or timeout errors while working within the Capture Client 3.6 management console

All endpoints running Capture Client 3.5 or earlier prior to the upgrade continue to be fully protected, regardless of current inconsistencies in licensing status display.

There is currently no action required by Capture Client administrators. SonicWall engineers are working quickly to resolve the issues and will continue to provide updates through this alert.
