A standby appliance is guaranteed to activate 10 - 15 minutes after all designated GTO appliances lose communication with the Standby appliance. To reduce the failover time, we need to add a CEM value.
When the ACTIVE SMA Appliance is undergoing maintenance by the CMS (such as for a configuration change, hotfix
installation, or firmware upgrade), and user connections cannot be serviced, the standby appliance will be automatically activated.
Note: Refer CMS GTO Admin guide for more details.
We need to apply the CEM value on CMS and appliances under the GTO service.
Take a backup of the settings file before making any changes
1- Log in to AMC.
2- Click on Maintenance in the left-hand navigation menu. (In case of CMS, Management server-> maintain)
3- In the URL, append "?advanced=1", and hit return.
4- Click on Configure under the new section Configuration extensions.
5- Click New
6- For the Key field, put in: MGMT_STANDBY_APPLIANCE_ACTIVATION_MINUTES
7- For the Value field, put in: 5
8- Click OK.
9- Click Save,
10- Apply Changes (this will force an apply-all, making the changes take effect).
NOTE: The value field represents the time in minutes
WARNING: Validation is not performed on the Key/Value pair input values, so any wrong inputs on these fields could break your system. CEM values are Case sensitive.
Important: With the CEM value the Standby device becomes active immediately on detecting a loss of connectivity and will accept new connections made to the GTO service name but this also depends on the DNS delegation.
Note: Refer CMS/GTO Admin guide for more details.
