How to Block Gaming Site and Apps (Big Fish Games etc.) using Application Control

Description

This is a scenario based article of the SonicWall App Control Advanced feature. In this scenario we describe how to block Gaming Apps Like Big Fish.

Resolution

Blocking Gaming Category
ImageStep 1: Login to the SonicWall Mangement GUI.


Step 2: Navigate to the Firewall | App Control Advanced page. In Gen5 TZ devices this page is under Security Services | AppControl

Step 3: Check the box under Enable App Control and click on the Accept button at the top to enable App Control.

Step 4: Under App Control Advanced | View Style select GAMING under Category

Step 5:Click on Configure.

Step 6: In the Edit App Control Category window, select Enable under the Block and Logfields.

Step 7: Click on  OK to save.

Blocking an Individual Gaming Application or Site Example:Big Fish)

Step 1: On the App Control Advanced page, under App Control Advanced | View Style |Application, select a Gaming application or site. In this example Big Fish.

Step 2: Click on Configure.

Step 3: In the Edit App Control App window, select Enable under the Block and Log fields.

Step 4: Click on OK to save.

Step 1: Navigate to Network | Zones

Step 2: Click on the configure button under the zone where you want enable App Control.

Step 3: Check Enable App Control Service.


How to Test

From a host behind the SonicWall, login to www.bigfishgames.com . You will get a "The connection was reset" page and the following messages will be logged in the SonicWall.
