How changing subnet on an interface will affect my network?

Description

User has to change the subnet on an already configured interface on the SonicWall.

  • Will the related static routes be modified with the new subnet?
  • Will the new subnet creates issues in my network?
  • Will VPN users obtain the new route for the new subnet?

Resolution

  • Will the related static routes be modified with the new subnet?

All the default policies will be changes with the new subnet. If you have custom routes, you need to make sure it's correctly configured with the new deployment. If you use the default object (i.e. X0 Subnet, X2 Subnet, etc.), this object is automatically changed.

  • Will the new subnet creates issues in my network?

You need to make sure the new subnet you're configuring is not overlapping with other interfaces.sub-interfaces (in this case you can't configure that subnet) or with custom routes.

  • Will VPN users obtain the new route for the new subnet?

VPN users won't be affected if you use default objects (.e. X0 Subnet, X2 Subnet, etc.) because they will be automatically updated. If you use custom objects for the VPN routes, you need to modify them.

Should you have objects referring to the old subnet, it's recommended to update those objects with the new subnet: Network | Address Objects.
