SonicWall Earns ‘Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures Program Certification,’ Strengthening Industry’s Collaborative Efforts to Increase Cybersecurity Education and Defenses

MILPITAS, Calif. — SonicWall, the trusted security partner protecting more than 1 million networks worldwide, has been named the 85th Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVE) Numbering Authority (CNA) by The MITRE (MITRE) Corporation, a not-for-profit operator of research and development centers.

One of only a select few firewall providers, SonicWall now has the authority to identify unique vulnerabilities within its products by issuing CVE IDs, publicly disclose vulnerabilities that have been newly identified, assign an ID, release vulnerability information without pre-publishing, and notify customers of other product vulnerabilities within the CNA’s program.

“I’ve been a longtime proponent of regulation and guidance efforts that advocate the disclosure of cybersecurity risks and incidents,” said SonicWall Chief Operating Officer Atul Dhablania. “This program takes us one step closer to reaching the transparency security administrators need in order to make swift and educated decisions when it comes to threat protection. Launched in 1999, the CVE database contains standard identifier numbers, a brief description and references to related vulnerability reports and advisories. The organization, operating federally funded research and development centers, continues to study, identify and log software and firmware capabilities and vulnerabilities, and has become the industry standard for vulnerability and exposure identifiers.

Vendors, researchers, bug bounty programs, and national and industry CERTs comprise the program’s 85 CNAs. Candidates are required to have a significant user base and an established security advisory amongst other criteria.
