How to hide the internal WIFI SSID of the firewall

Description

This article shows how to hide the internal Wireless SSID of the firewall from a network. You can apply the information in this KB in the other way around if you can't see the WiFi SSID in your network.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

Here's how to configure the internal wireless settings:

  • Navigate  to Device |Internal wireless |Advanced  and on the Beaconing and SSID controls  enable Hide SSID in BeaconImage

    NOTE: If you use multiple Virtual Access Points (VAPs) you can individually set which one should be hidden and which one should be visible

If you want so specifically set which VAP(Virtual Access Point) should be discoverable and which one not  please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Device |Internal wireless |Virtual Access Point
  2. For each Virtual Access Point you want to hide, click the configuration button and check "Enable SSID Suppress"Image
