This article describes two methods to export the settings to a file from the command-line-interface (CLI) of the SonicWall UTM device.
Export Preferences using MS Windows HyperTerminal when using a console cable:
Method 1: Export using Z-modem
Login to the CLI of the SonicWall UTM device.
Method 2. Export using an FTP server
NOTE: If using the FTP option, make sure an FTP server is configured in the PC. The IP address of the FTP server, the username and password of the server and the name of the exported settings file listed here are for example only. You can substitute the same with the appropriate credentials for your network.
In the above example, the FTP server is at IP address 192.168.168.168; the username and password for the server is "test"; the filename for the settings file is "PREFS.EXP" and it will be saved in the root directory of the FTP server.Export Preferences using Putty when using console cable or using SSH:
Settings cannot be exported using the Z-modem protocol when using Putty. The command to export the settings using FTP are the same as in HyperTerminal.
In the above example, the FTP server is at IP address 192.168.168.168; the username and password for the server is "test"; the filename for the settings file is "PREFS.EXP" and it will be saved in the root directory of the FTP server.
