How to exclude a MAC address from CFS in SonicOS 5.8

Description

How to exclude a MAC address from CFS in SonicOS 5.8

Resolution

Feature/Application:

Since we cannot choose an Address Object of type MAC for the CFS Exclusion List like in firmware version 5.9 we need a different approach.

Procedure:

Step 1: A static DHCP Server Lease Scope must be created to bound an IP address to a MAC address.
The following example describes the procdure when using SonicWall's build in DHCP server but the procedure is similar on a designated DHCP server:

  • Go to Network > DHCP Server.
  • In the DHCP Server Lease Scopes section click on the "Add Static" button.
  • Specify the Name, IP Address and MAC Address, tick the "Interface Pre-Populate" option and select an interface to get the according Default Gateway and Subnet Mask or configure it manually.

Step 2: Go to Security Services > Content Filter, scroll down to the CFS Exclusion List, enable it and add a new entry with the IP address specified in the Static DHCP Server Lease.
