Connect Tunnel MSI-Based Installation From Read-Only Fileshare Fails

Description

Connect Tunnel MSI-Based Installation From Read-Only Fileshare Fails

Resolution

Overview

Installing Connect Tunnel client using an MSI package—extracted from the Connect Tunnel setup executable—from a network share that has read-only permissions will fail with the following error:

Error writing to file: \servernamesharefolderngvpn.cat.  Verify that you have access to that directory.

Workaround

As long as users can write to just that directory, their installations will succeed.  If this is not possible, SonicWall recommends using the setup executable to install Connect Tunnel.  When this executable runs, no files need to be created on the fileshare.

SonicWall is investigating a fix for this issue for a future appliance software release.  This KB item will be updated as more information becomes available.
