SMA1000: How to re-image hardware appliances (SMA6210/SMA7210)

Description

This article describes how to re-image SMA1000 hardware appliance models (SMA6210/SMA7210).

A serial console connection to the physical appliance is required, see:

Resolution

1. Connect the serial cable to the SMA6210/SMA7210 appliance.

2. Use a serial connection application such as PuTTY or SecureCRT with the following settings:

Port: COM1 or COM2, depending on which COM port you are connected to. 
Mode: VT100 
Baud Rate: 115200 
Data Bits: 8 
Parity: None 
Stop Bits: 1 
Flow Control: None 

3. Boot the appliance. You may see a version of the following message displayed on the screen: 

Pri Master: 512MB CKS    YUAN1026 \

4. As soon as you see the following text on the serial console connection, press the Escape (ESC) key on your keyboard.  

GRUB Loading stage...  

5. We need to use up arrow to select Recovery Partition at this stage and hit enter.  

 

6. After this stage, you will see the following prompt  

 

7. Enter the username as "root" to get to the command prompt. There is no password.    

8. Once you are in the # prompt of the FSL option, we need initiate the reimage process. Type this command and enter: reimage.sh 

9. The SMA will then be reimaged from the initial firmware state when it was first received (original firmware shipped from factory). 

Notes: FIPS mode must be disabled for this process to work.
