Firmware Auto Update Feature in SonicWall

Description

Note: SonicOS supports the Firmware Auto-Update feature starting from version 7.1.1 and later. 

In the top right corner of the GUI, you can see a Cog (settings Icon) which is for the auto-update information. This will display if there is a new firmware available and if there is a new firmware available, it will also display an option to download it.

The settings for the Firmware Auto Update feature can be found under Device | Settings | Firmware and Settings | Settings | Firmware Auto Update.

To enable the firmware auto updates:

  • Enable Check for available updates

Enables an online appliance to check for available updates and show notifications in the GUI.

 

Update Availability

You have the following options:

  • Critical updates only
  • Download new firmware automatically when available

 

Critical updates only: Only check for the availability of critical updates that affect security. Unticking this box will check for all available updates.

Download new firmware automatically: Download firmware updates as soon as they become available. They will then be available for later installation.


Automatic updates

To Enable Automatic updates:

  • Enable Automatically install downloaded firmware

Enable the automatic installation of previously downloaded firmware updates according to the set schedule.


Schedule

The default schedule for firmware auto updates is:

Firmware Install Hours
SU-SA 01:00 to 02:00
