PRESS RELEASE – May 21, 2018

Membership enables SonicWall to collaborate, share cyber threat intelligence in global effort to develop and promote stronger cybersecurity practices

MILPITAS, Calif. — SonicWall, the trusted security partner protecting more than 1 million networks worldwide, announces its full membership in the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), a global non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together computer security and incident response teams (CSIRT). SonicWall joins the concerted effort of over 400 teams from Asia, Europe, Americas and Oceania to address security incidents and lead global cyberattack prevention efforts.

“SonicWall is always committed to engaging in collaborative efforts that strengthen security standards while reducing reaction time to today’s most advanced cyber threats,” said SonicWall President and CEO Bill Conner. “With more than 1 million security sensors in nearly 200 countries and territories, we realize the power of threat intelligence and the effect it can have in memory-based vulnerabilities like Meltdown and Spectre, as well as ransomware attacks like WannaCry or NotPetya. Organizations like FIRST make sharing vital information possible and we look forward to contributing and participating in their program.”

Responsible for the identification, assessment and disposition of risks associated with security vulnerabilities contained within SonicWall offerings, the company’s Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) received a thorough examination and certification of its processes and procedures by FIRST. PSIRT’s findings are available to SonicWall customers 24/7 through an online security advisory portal containing the most up-to-date CVE information and the capability to report a discovered vulnerability.

As part of the member process, SonicWall was nominated by two existing members, underwent an on-site audit and was voted in favor of by the FIRST Board of Directors.

FIRST and its members have been developing and exchanging information, tools, methodologies, processes and best practices since its foundation in 1990.
