How to configure SonicWall to access MPLS network
NOTE : This configuration shouldn't necessarily be between two SonicWalls. This article explains configuration of an interface on sonicwall communicating with MPLS network.
Site A
Site A is using a LAN interface to communicate with MPLS network, so as Site B. with two different subnets on each end.
Resolution
Resolution for SonicOS 7.X
This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.
Configuring SonicWall to communicate with MPLS network involves following steps
1. Optional: Create a Zone
2. Create an address object with above created zone or any zone in SonicWall except WAN for gateway address provided by MPLS network provider
3. Configure an interface on SonicWall with same subnet as MPLS network with the same zone as address object created above.
4. Create an address object for the network that need to be accessed through the MPLS network
5. Create a static route
The above steps can be followed on the other side (on site B SonicWall or any firewall connected on the other side).
1. create a zone as MPLS.
Navigate to Objects | Match Objects | Zones | Add
NOTE : In this article we are not using a custom created Zone since it is optional.
2. Creating Address object
Navigate to Objects | Match Objects | Address Objects | Add
This address object is the Gateway of SonicWall to communicate with MPLS network.
3. Configure an interface on sonicwall to communicate with MPLS network
Navigate to Network | Interfaces and configure an interface to be within the same subnet of MPLS network
4. Create an address object for the network that need to be accessed through the MPLS network
Navigate to Objects | Match objects | Address Objects | Add
5. Create a route
Navigate to Policy | Routing rules and add a route as
Note : Make sure Gateway should be the MPLS network interface IP not the interface IP of other site(Site B) or not the interface IP of the other side MPLS network.
Similar configuration should be repeated on the other site (Site B)
Resolution for SonicOS 6.5
This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.
