How do I update SonicWall access point firmware?

SonicWall access point firmware is not embedded in the SonicOS Enhanced firmware. However, If your SonicWall appliance has Internet connectivity SonicOS Enhanced will automatically download the SonicPoint/SonicWave image from a secure SonicWall server on the internet when it discovers a SonicPoint/SonicWave device.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

Perform the following steps to update your SonicPoint or SonicWave firmware.

1. It is recommended that you always update the firmware of your SonicWall appliance to the latest to ensure that your access points can download the latest firmware version.
2. Ensure that you connect the SonicPoint or SonicWave to the appropriate interface associated with WLAN zone.

3. Navigate to Access Points | Settings page to see the current status of your access points.

Tip: If your SonicPoint or SonicWave has trouble downloading firmware, please reboot the device.

1. It is recommended that you always update the firmware of your SonicWall appliance to the latest to ensure that your access points can download the latest firmware version.
2. Ensure that you connect the SonicPoint or SonicWave to the appropriate interface associated with WLAN zone.


3. Navigate to Access Points | Base Settings page to see the current status of your access points.

Resolution for SonicOS 6.2 and Below

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.

Perform the following steps to update your SonicPoint firmware.
1. It is recommended that you always update the firmware of your SonicWall appliance to the latest to ensure that your Sonicpoints can download the latest Sonicpoint firmware version.
2. Ensure that you connect the Sonicpoint to the appropriate interface associated with WLAN zone.

3. Navigate to Sonicpoint | Sonicpoints page to see the current status of your SonicPoint or SonicWave.

Tip: If your access points have trouble downloading firmware, try rebooting the devices.
