How to view dropped packets in Log Monitor

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.


  1. Navigate to Device | Log | Settings. Image
  2. Select Network | ICMP.
  3. For the ICMP packets dropped option select the option show in GUI.Image

NOTE: For the TCP packets, instead of the sub-category ICMP, expand the category TCP.Any events for dropped packets will be shown in the log and it should be possible to identify if an access rules is causing packets to be dropped.


Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Navigate to Manage | Log Settings | Base settings.

  2. Select Network | ICMP.
  3. For the ICMP packets dropped option select the option show in GUI.

    NOTE: For the TCP packets, instead of the sub-category ICMP, expand the category TCP.
    Any events for dropped packets will be shown in the log and it should be possible to identify if an access rules is causing packets to be dropped.



Resolution for SonicOS 6.2 and Below

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Click on Log | Settings.
