Dell SonicWALL GMS 6.x reaches End of Support on December 24, 2016 for world-wide geographies.  GMS 6.x has been in Limited Retirement Mode (no longer releasing bug fixes) since December 24, 2013.  Please click here to learn more about the GMS product lifecycle dates.

Why is this happening?

GMS will have two supported releases:  GMS 7.x released in December 2011 and GMS 8.0 released in June 2015.  GMS 7.x has been in General Release since May 2013 and GMS 8.0 has been in Early Release since June 2015.

Existing GMS 6.x customers should plan to upgrade their GMS systems to benefit from the latest bug fixes and experience heightened performance.  All customers with a current Support agreement are eligible to upgrade to the latest version of GMS at no additional cost.  For consultation and assistance, please open a Support case

Frequently Asked Questions

Question:  May I continue to run GMS 6.x without Support?

Answer: Dell does not recommend running GMS 6.x without Support.  Dell recommends upgrading and continuing Support to get the latest technical advances, new features,  and software upgrades.  A GMS 6.x system without Support is not eligible for these improvements and would not perform as well as a supported version of GMS.

Question:  What if my GMS 6.x Support expired and I did not renew it?

Answer: GMS does not have a separate reinstatement SKU,  However, if your GMS E-Class 24x7 Support or CGMS Support has expired, purchasing a multi-year SKU will solve the problem.  Multi-year support SKUs for GMS will provide reinstatement to make you current and enable you to upgrade your system.

Question: Should I upgrade to GMS 7.2 or 8.0?

Answer: Dell recommends upgrading to GMS 8.0.  GMS 8.0 is the most feature-rich and highest-performing version of GMS to date.  It was released in June 2015 after extensive QA testing and beta trialling.  GMS 8.0 is in Early Release status in accordance with our standard quality practice.  In its first two months after release, nearly one-fifth of the installed base is running GMS 8.0 and its quality is comparable to GMS 7.2.  GMS 7.2 is in General Release status and we are targeting to promote GMS 8.0 to General Release status after monitoring a few more months of runtime.   

Question:  How is the UMA affected?

Answer: When a customer is ready to upgrade an UMA running 6.x, the hardware must be migrated to a Windows or Virtuall Appliance 64-bit platform (the UMA is 32-bit).  Any UMA in this scenario that is under a Support contract may be converted to a GMS Software license so that the value of GMS is preserved as a customer moves to a general purpose server.  A Support case may be opened to assist with the migration of firewall settings, policies, and historical report data. The old UMA hardware Serial number will be deactivated after the migration to a software deployment is complete.
