Service Impact Notification for SonicWall Hosted Email Security (HES)

Issue: On November 16th, SonicWall backend service encountered a three-hour outage between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. PST. During this time, a small set of SonicWall Hosted Email Security customers using North America services were impacted. The outage has since been resolved and all services are active. No email was lost.

Impact: Some administrators who logged into their HES console during the outage may have seen that their SonicWall Email Security product was unlicensed. During this time, the Hosted Email Security solution was making judgements on incoming messages, but the solution was unable to filter spam and phishing messages based on judgements made. This resulted in all incoming messages being delivered to end-user inboxes.

Required Action: We recommend all administrators review their message logs and headers, between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. PST on Nov. 16., looking for messages judged as spam or phishing but were delivered.
