Description

AV: Installation Error 0x80070002 - can't find INX file to execute

Resolution

This error is caused by one of the following:

  1. Insufficient disk space to install on the proxy server, or
  2. Firewall blocking the cab files during installation but allowing the initial setup to run.

Check free disk space.
You can free up some hard disk space by:

 a. Delete temporary files
  b. Empty the Internet cache files and cookies

If disk space is still insufficient, it will be necessary to decide the next step (a larger drive or fewer programs on the current drive.)  Open the myagent.log file (located in Program FilesMcAfeeManaged VirusScan) and scroll to the bottom of the file, then scroll up looking for proxy validation errors.  If you have made more than one unsuccessful attempt to install:

  1. Remove any AV client components that may have been installed
  2. Delete the myagent.log file
  3. Reinstall (so that we have a clean log file that shows where install failed).

All firewall or proxy server restrictions will have to be addressed by the network administrator. Once the firewall or proxy server has been determined to be the problem, contact the vendor for configuration support. Also, the AV client only supports anonymous or Windows NT authentication proxies.  Port 80 on the firewall must be open (both inbound and outbound) and port 6515 on the proxy must be left open. Anything listening on port 6515 can cause errors and prevent Rumor from working.
