MANAGED EDGE: Keep Client Configurations When Upgrading to Next-Gen SonicWall Firewalls

by Suriti Singh

As partners migrate their clients from SonicWall Gen 6 firewalls to Gen 7 and Gen 8, maintaining the existing device configurations becomes a key consideration. SonicWall’s Network Security Manager (NSM) includes a powerful migration utility that automatically translates legacy configurations to the new standard, saving time and reducing complexity.

There’s a certain excitement when infrastructure is being refreshed. Partners know the advantages of deploying the latest technology—improved performance, stronger security and new features that enhance service offerings.

But for MSPs and MSSPs managing multiple client environments, manual configuration rebuilds can quickly become a resource drain. Extracting data from Gen 6 devices and translating it for Gen 7 or Gen 8 firewalls is tedious work, and it’s time your team could spend elsewhere. Well, no more.

Simplified Migrations for Partners

SonicWall’s upgraded NSM 3.0 includes a built-in migration capability* to streamline the transition from Gen 6 to Gen 7 or Gen 8. This feature automatically extracts configurations from the retiring unit, translates them to meet the new device’s requirements, and provisions the replacement, ensuring a fast, reliable and error-free transition for each client.

Alongside hardware upgrades, we also recommend partners migrate from GMS to NSM 3.0 to take full advantage of this and other advanced management features.

*This NSM 3.0 migration capability will initially support the migration of NSa 2700 to NSa 2800 and TZ SOHO to TZ80

Reclaiming Your Time

With automated migrations, partners can deliver quicker turnaround times while minimizing disruption for clients. That means stronger SLAs, happier customers and fewer late nights for your team.
