Some companies outside the leadership ranks have succumbed to the pressures of today's extraordinarily challenging economic times by propagating inaccurate, unfounded claims about category leaders, hoping to instill unfounded fear, uncertainty and doubt. As a category leader, SonicWALL is a natural target for these attempts and has come to expect these attacks. In fact, we expect them to significantly increase as economic pressures intensify. With that said, we believe that it is important to set the record straight when competitors distort the truth.

Fortinet has recently made numerous misleading statements about SonicWALL. Let's compare some of those statements to the hard facts.

Misleading Statement:
Fortinet would have you believe that SonicWALL sacrifices performance for security and that Fortinet firewalls allow a better balance of advanced security with high performance.
Fact:
SonicWALL's NSA 240 next generation firewall delivers 600 Mbps in network throughput, more than five times the performance of the similarly-priced Fortinet FortiGate-100A device. So when comparable products are measured against each other, Fortinet does not even come close to SonicWALL's performance. Of course, the Fortinet FortiGate-5140 does provide faster throughput than the SonicWALL NSA 240 as long as you're willing to pay approximately $200,000 for the 5140 versus a list price of $1,770 for the NSA 240.

Misleading Statement:
Fortinet would like you to think that SonicWALL Gateway Anti-Virus has questionable catch rates and that their catch rate is superior.
Fact:
An independent third party has rigorously tested competitive solutions in a recent Network World evaluation. The comparison revealed that the SonicWALL solution provides the highest catch rate versus any vendor in the review and at least a 10% advantage versus the Fortinet FortiGate-3600A.

Misleading Statement:
Fortinet would also like you to believe that SonicWALL is not a recognized, highly regarded company.
Fact:
SonicWALL is a consistently recognized top vendor in the industry. Recently, SonicWALL was ranked in the top five in VARBusiness's listing of the Top 20 Most Strategic Security Vendors along with Microsoft, Cisco, Symantec and HP. Fortinet has never achieved such recognition. Where exactly does Fortinet rank?—NOT in the Top 20.
