Bigger is not
always better.

The SonicWALL® NSA E7500 next generation firewall delivers 1,288 Mbps of Unified Threat Management (UTM) network throughput—more than ten times the performance of the Cisco ASA 5540 with SSM-20 IPS Module running only IPS at 118 Mbps. And the SonicWALL NSA E7500 with full UTM protection costs about 45% of the $53,490 price tag for the Cisco ASA 5540 with IPS Module. Don't let your IT investment get sunk by Cisco!

So much for the CISCO status quo.

In challenging economic times like these, businesses are increasingly appreciative of well-engineered solutions that are not only able to increase performance and protection, but are also capable of cutting costs and complexity as well. For Cisco, the Unfortunate Truth is that SonicWALL is simply the better alternative to a compromised status quo.

1
Protection—the Unfortunate Truth about Cisco security products.

Cisco offers limited protection. Certain ASA models offer only Stateful Packet Inspection, which doesn't scale, and only scans a fraction of traffic for threats. ASA forces customers to choose between deploying either intrusion prevention or anti-virus/anti-spyware/content filtering protection—limiting them to either protection against Malware or against known vulnerabilities. Also, the ASA gateway anti-virus has file-size limitations, so it either delivers all data or deletes data. Plus, the ASA only inspects certain standard ports and protocols and requires manual signature updates that open windows for attack, while sapping IT resources.

SonicWALL delivers complete, reliable protection. SonicWALL's Reassembly-free Deep Packet Inspection™ (RFDPI) technology (U.S. Patent 7,310,815D-A) is highly scalable, scanning 100% of TCP traffic. Importantly, SonicWALL's UTM protection includes comprehensive security including gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, enforced desktop anti-virus, content filtering and Application Firewall. And according to a NetworkWorld review, SonicWALL had the highest anti-virus catch rate of any vendor. Plus, SonicWALL inspects more ports and protocols, as well as identifies, classifies and enforces granular application-specific policies. Last, but not least, SonicWALL's intelligent, dynamic updates eliminate overhead while providing ongoing security.

2
Performance—the Unfortunate Truth about Cisco security products.

Cisco only achieves lower performance levels. The ASA has not been optimized to advanced architecture, but instead is built on legacy, general-purpose CPU hardware. The result is inferior comparative performance. Independently tested, a Cisco ASA 5540 running IPS alone with its SSM-20 IPS module is limited to a throughput of only 118 Mbps.

SonicWALL delivers breakthrough performance. SonicWALL's RFDPI engine is optimized to a security-specialized, multi-core processor platform, delivering complete UTM at gigabit speeds. In independent tests, the SonicWALL E-Class NSA E7500 running gateway anti-virus plus intrusion prevention delivered a throughput of 1,288 Mbps—more than ten times that of a comparable ASA 5540 running only IPS at 118 Mpbs.

3
Cost and Ease-of-Use—the Unfortunate Truth about Cisco security products.

Cisco is costly and complicated. The initial cost for a single Cisco ASA 5540 running IPS along with its SSM-20 IPS module is a whopping $53,490! Additionally, Cisco's ongoing management, licensing and certification are expensive and complex as well. In terms of complexity, Cisco's command line interface for top-line management can be a resource sinkhole. And, licensing is also complicated by requiring the purchase of an additional license for anti-spam, anti-phishing, URL filtering and content control, as well as a separate interface for intrusion prevention or content security configurations. Cisco's gateway anti-virus requires additional third-party management software, plus a physical connection to a CSC-SSM module. And, while Cisco Works is an optional add-on, it doesn't provide a robust distributed management system.

SonicWALL is engineered to reduce cost and complexity. SonicWALL delivers comprehensive protection, higher performance and greater usability at the significantly lower price point of approximately $30,000. In addition to this upfront value, SonicWALL solutions are much easier to install, manage, and license for administrators of all experience levels, relying on elegantly simple Web-based wizards, and common configuration and management scenarios. SonicWALL's intuitive consoles, centralized object management, and award-winning Global Management System (GMS) make it easy to centrally configure, enforce and manage global policies, VPNs and services across distributed environments. At the end of the day, SonicWALL solutions are engineered from the ground up to reduce both cost and complexity.

Customers and industry experts tell it like it is.

Quotation Marks"I've looked into other solutions with similar functionality such as Cisco, and they are all far more expensive. SonicWALL gives me the performance I need and more money left in my budget."Quotation Marks Jesse McKneely, Director of Infrastructure and Project Management, Birmingham-Southern College

Quotation Marks"The Network Security Appliance E7500 indeed has crashed through the speed barrier."Quotation Marks Joel Snyder, NetworkWorld
