Barracuda’s claims do not always reflect reality. Upon closer examination, you may discover that what they really offer is not everything you’d expect.

Barracuda users lose important functionality. Barracuda solutions are sold by functionality, so low-end models have substantially less capability. Important features such as LDAP access, end-user controls, and spam quarantines are not available, forcing users to move up to more expensive systems just to get the basic functionality that their businesses need. Barracuda is twice the cost. Barracuda touts a low cost ($695) system, but all you get is a Model 100 appliance— subscriptions cost extra. Need a spam quarantine? Want LDAP integration? That's another $1400 to upgrade to Model 300. For a 100-user system that connects to LDAP and provides spam quarantines, a Barracuda solution will cost approximately $2,500 (or double that cost if you want to add outbound e-mail protection which requires an additional device).
