The schedule for updating information on this Web site may not be consistent with otherwise currently available information. Export & foreign trade control compliance.

SonicWALL complies with the laws and regulations governing export and foreign trade controls and expects its employees and distributors, resellers and those who handle its products to do the same.  Any person or entity exporting or re-exporting SonicWALL’s products directly or indirectly and via any means, including electronic transfer, must comply with all applicable US laws including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations as well as the laws of host countries.

Export controls also are a component of the broader range of U.S. foreign trade controls.  Restrictions are imposed through unilateral or multilateral economic sanctions programs.  Currently, the U.S. government maintains comprehensive unilateral sanction programs against countries identified as state sponsors of terrorism.  The U.S. also maintains sanctions that affect exports and re-exports against individuals and organizations that are Foreign Terrorist Organizations, Foreign Terrorists, Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons, and Drug Kingpins. These lists are long, frequently change, and include individuals from countries throughout the world. Other U.S. laws may be relevant to international exports and sales, including the U.S. anti-boycott regulations.

SonicWALL’s Products which are subject to the Export Administration Regulations are submitted to the US export control agency, BIS, for classification.  A matrix of those classifications including the ECCN and CCATS are listed here.

Environmental compliance.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE)

The European Union has enacted a directive entitled the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive ("WEEE") relating to electronic waste management. WEEE requires electrical and electronics manufacturers to provide mechanisms to allow for the recycling or reuse of their products at retirement. The purpose of this directive is to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment within the member states of the European Union.
SonicWALL provides recycling support for our equipment to comply with WEEE. We have established recycling partnerships with designated third parties and SonicWALL channel partners that allow customers/end users to send their products to designated locations in their country for pickup.  SonicWALL products put into the European Union market after 13 August 2005, are marked with the WEEE symbol and include the symbol in their documentation. The symbol is a crossed-out wheeled waste bin with a bar underneath.

Regulations related to reuse and recycling program are evolving in each market we serve. As new information becomes available, this compliance statement will be modified.

Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS)

The European Union has enacted a directive effective July 1, 2006 entitled Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Eqiupment ("RoHS"). This directive restricts the use of certain materials that are commonly found in electronic products. RoHS prohibits the sale into the European Union of electronic equipment containing certain amounts of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated byphenyls and polybrominated diphenylethers. RoHS applies to all electrical and electronic equipment with some exemptions. Specific exemptions apply to certain product types where appropriate alternative materials do not currently exist.

SonicWALL is working with its component suppliers and contract manufacturers to eliminate all chemicals classified as hazardous and to reduce our usage of other material below the levels required by RoHS.
Regulations associated with RoHS compliance are evolving and specific requirements are in a state on continued refinement. RoHS allows for a lead-in-solder exemption and SonicWALL products qualify for that exemption as defined in the annex section of the directive. As the regulations evolve, this compliance statement will be modified to reflect the most complete up-to-date information on the state of our RoHS activities.
