Email Protection Techniques

Best-in-class effectiveness with enhanced advanced reputation management.

SonicWALL Email Security (SES) has enhanced our Advanced Reputation Management for even better performance.  This unique technology improves upon traditional IP reputation techniques by applying reputation GRIDprints to not only the Sending IP, but also to the URLs, content, structure, images, attachments and more of an e-mail.  When combined with attack prevention (DHA), quality of service (DoS, IP throttling, etc), Backscatter/NDR attack prevention with BATV, and other connection management techniques, SonicWALL Email Security rejects up to 90% of e-mail threats at the connection – where the spamming server is trying to connect to your system. This is the first layer of SonicWALL’s multi-layer Email Security defense, which allows SonicWALL to achieve over 98% effectiveness against e-mail threats.  The remaining e-mail is then filtered to remove the residual e-mail spam so that only good e-mail is delivered to your e-mail server.  Advanced Reputation Management also logs all rejected connections delivering piece-of-mind while improving system performance and throughput.

Future-proofed architecture with highly scalable solutions.

SonicWALL Email Security's highly scalable architecture allows growing organizations to easily add additional units for capacity and redundancy for multi-system email protection – all with central management, configuration and reporting.  SonicWALL delivers unmatched scalability via our multi-system or "Split-mode" configuration, which allows customers to deploy multiple units as a single system.  This allows customers to easily scale the performance, capacity, and redundancy of their SonicWALL Email Security systems in a cost effective manner.

With the Email Security 7.2 release, SonicWALL has completely re-architected and optimized the data communications of GRIDprints between our Email Security systems and SonicWALL's GRID Network. The GRID Network is our collaborative intelligence system that delivers "real-time" updates to all Email Security products. By optimizing the performance on our back-end systems with a dynamic real-time response to changing e-mail threat patterns, we were able to reduce the size of the data communication by 50%, while improving overall effectiveness. This streamlines updates, improves protection capacity, and increases overall performance of our Email Security solutions.

SonicWALL has also innovated on the performance of our Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) in our Windows Server Software solutions. We are now able to deliver even higher performance connection management on these Email Security products. This allows SonicWALL to meet customer's needs to handle greater and greater peak traffic loads and mitigate sudden spikes in e-mail traffic.  The combination of these capabilities delivers unparalleled scalability and performance for SonicWALL Email Security products, future proofing customers' investment in their Email Security solution.

Ease of management with new GMS management support and enhanced third-party management support.

SonicWALL now delivers complete ease of management via SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS).  GMS allows IT Admins to easily, centrally manage SonicWALL Email Security products, as part of an overall management solution for SonicWALL security products. GMS is capable of managing 1000's of SonicWALL devices in a single consolidated administration and management platform.  Now customers using GMS can consolidate the management of all their SonicWALL products via one management system.

SonicWALL has further added support for third party management and reporting tools via full syslog support. SonicWALL can deliver reporting all the way down to the message level via syslog which can be used to integrate log data from many different types of systems into a central repository. SonicWALL has also added new support in our Windows Server Software products for Windows Event View. SonicWALL Email Security can now log all Email Security alerts to the Windows Event Viewer, to provide a consolidated view of all alerts on a Windows server. These ease of management innovations allow SonicWALL's customer to focus their time on running their business by consolidating management into their existing management and reporting systems for their Email Security solutions.

Advanced search – find it fast.

SonicWALL has implemented a new advanced search in our Email Security products.  This provides rapid retrieval of messages in SonicWALL Email Security products.  Millions of messages can be searched in less than 1 second.  Further, Advanced Search supports complete wildcard and Boolean search terms that can be used to pinpoint messages in the system quickly and efficiently with high accuracy.  Rather than sorting and filtering, this enables IT Admins to search for the exact messages they are looking for.  SonicWALL has also enhanced the Junkbox, audit, and per-user view scalability, sortability, and searchability for even great visibility and flexibility into the system.  This allows IT Admins to focus on running their network, rather then sorting and sifting through e-mail messages.
