SonicWALL® Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware solutions automatically deliver updated security definitions immediately to the endpoint as they become available, protecting against today’s rapidly-evolving threats. Working in conjunction with SonicWALL network security appliances, the SonicWALL Enforced Client guarantees that all endpoints have the latest versions of anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed and active. The SonicWALL® Client/Server Anti-Virus Suite integrates additional protection for Windows-based file, print, and Exchange servers.

Industry-leading Solutions

In partnership with McAfee, the leader in business anti-virus solutions, SonicWALL offers a choice of two anti-virus services to protect every endpoint against the most sophisticated virus threats, dangerous spyware, and productivity-draining ad-ware.

SonicWALL Enforced Client Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware »

This service automatically enforces anti-virus and anti-spyware policies on every client, reducing administrative overhead. It combines client-based scanning and mitigation capabilities with centralised management and reporting capabilities.

SonicWALL Client/Server Anti-Virus Suite »

This suite of services combines the client-based anti-virus protection of SonicWALL Enforced Client service with best in class server protection, McAfee's VirusScan Enterprise for Windows servers, NetShield for Novell servers, and GroupShield for Exchange servers.  These server-based products provide anti-virus protection for Windows-based file, print and Exchange servers, as well as Novell servers.

Multi-Layered Approach

SonicWALL takes a multi-layered approach that addresses each point of vulnerability in a network. The endpoint solutions are one important part of an overall solution that includes Gateway Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware and Intrusion Prevention Service. This gateway service protects the perimeter—serving as one more layer of protection in the defence against viruses and spyware. Servers must also be protected, as they exchange data with outside sources and function as the central focus point in the network. Once infected, a server could then easily infect hundreds of endpoints. Server protection is delivered through the SonicWALL Client/Server Anti-Virus Suite.

Using a layered approach, most threats can be caught before they can infect individual endpoints. But malware may still penetrate strong perimeter and server defences. In fact, many malware threats originate inside the network, bypassing perimeter protection entirely. For example, an employee or contractor may plug into the network with an infected notebook running out-of-date anti-virus software. With the last line of defence—Endpoint Security delivered through the SonicWALL Enforced Client Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware engine—this final vulnerability is eliminated.

Enforced Approach to Security

IT may be diligent about protecting gateways and servers. But protecting every endpoint—especially in a widely dispersed company—isn't always as easy. The enforced approach of SonicWALL's Endpoint Security solves this problem. Enforcement means that the SonicWALL security appliance verifies that all clients are running SonicWALL Anti-Virus with the latest virus and spyware signature files. Clients that are not in compliance are redirected to automatically download updates, and Internet access is blocked until the client becomes compliant with the anti-virus policy. Integrated desktop firewall capability adds another layer of protection by blocking unwanted Internet access to or from the computer.

Flexible Deployment Options

In addition to SonicWALL’s traditional enforced mode of deployment, SonicWALL's Endpoint Security products can also be deployed in a stand-alone mode. This non-enforced deployment configuration allows customers to deploy Enforced Client Anti-Virus without an associated SonicWALL Unified Threat Management (UTM) device. In stand-alone mode, the client is deployed and managed via the MySonicWALL.com Web portal instead of the SonicWALL UTM management interface. This provides protection against the latest Internet threats with automated updates of virus and spyware signatures delivered directly to the desktop, without the need to replace non-SonicWALL UTM appliances.

Reporting

Compliance with both internal policies and external regulations requires visibility and reporting. SonicWALL centralised reporting is comprehensive and easy-to-understand, generating real-time and historic data on the network, individual users, and the entire anti-virus and anti-spyware environment. Reports can be pre-scheduled or generated on-demand, and accessed through the SonicWALL network security appliance Web interface.
