SonicWALL’s New Anti-Spam Service Provides an Industry Breakthrough in Security and Ease-of-Use

The new service is designed to be easily enabled on SonicWALL TZ, NSA and E-Class NSA Series security appliances with just one mouse click, and will immediately begin to filter SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) email traffic to remove spam, phishing threats and even virus-laden email.

The service's hybrid-cloud design simplifies set-up while optimising protection, and upon activation stops spam before it enters the corporate network.  The solution also allows for IT administrators to quarantine individual junk mail boxes, a first in the industry.   The Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service differs from other firewall services in that it is a true and complete enterprise-class anti-spam service and not a simple black list filter or OEM list.

Due to the steady increase of junk email worldwide, nearly 94% of global email is in the form of unwanted or malicious correspondence such as spam, phishing and infected messages. This threat is especially significant within environments that are most likely to have limited network protection resources and less sophisticated security solutions such as small and medium businesses (SMBs) and distributed enterprises.

Dean Redman, SonicWALL's Country Manager in Australia and New Zealand, said the SonicWALL Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service enabled SMBs and enterprises to combat spam at the network gateway and thereby protecting the company network.

"Smaller organisations can protect against the global proliferation of email-based threats by allowing only good and wanted email is delivered to their server. Distributed enterprises receiving email in multiple locations can implement the Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service on remote SonicWALL firewalls to reduce spam-related network traffic. The result is an all-encompassing defence system against the swath of spam, phishing, viruses and other email-based threats that are becoming increasingly frequent, complex and sophisticated," commented Redman

By integrating directly with the firewall, the SonicWALL solution is able to scan every packet across every protocol – something hosted solutions simply can't do.  Implementing the Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service allows businesses to remove junk email at the gateway before it enters the network, improving bandwidth, optimising network efficiency and enhancing employee productivity.

Key features and customer benefits of the SonicWALL Comprehensive Anti Spam Service also include:

  • Advanced Reputation Management (ARM) utilises Sender IP Reputation to reject junk email—including spam, phishing and attached viruses—before it enters the network. ARM eliminates the need for less-effective, slow-responding and error-prone real-time blacklist services
  • Cloud-based Advanced Content Management (ACM) removes any remaining junk email using SonicWALL's proven spam fighting techniques. The cloud-based design utilises these advanced anti-spam techniques without  impacting firewall processing and overall network
  • Flexible junk email routing categorises junk messages as spam, likely spam, phishing, likely phishing, virus and likely virus - for complete control and compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements
  • User Junk Box for Outlook option enables quick set-up of Junk Boxes for all users to store junk messages. Users can receive Junk Box Summary emails, which they may use to view (as text) and un-junk messages as desired
  • SonicWALL GRID Anti-Virus is automatically activated along with SonicWALL CASS to detect SMTP-based virus emails and reroute them as defined by the administrator (e.g., rejected or deleted) at the gateway
  • Integrated allow and block lists are built into SonicWALL network security appliances, as well as integrated reporting and logging
